The Golf Club Courmayeur and Grandes Jorasses to give it its full name is a stunning little entry. The course is stunning because it is located in the Val Ferret and under Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain. The Courmayeur golf course is stunning again because it is a flat course set alongside the river Dora and even crossing it twice.
Most of the challenge comes from trying to keep your balls out of the river, but the nine holes of Courmayeur’s golf club are indeed a great ay to spend the day. Never mind; what the course lacks in challenge it makes up in tradition and beauty. First designed in the 1930’s the course is one of the oldest and best established golfing locations in all of the European Alps. If you are in Courmayeur at any time from June to October take the opportunity to play this magical course. The club is billed by its officials as “exclusive, and without ostentation.” This would probably be a better description than any this writer can come up with. If you visit Courmayeur this summer as all or part of your holiday and golf is among your loves…you will surely love this course.
